Frequently Asked Questions

What are the best destinations for Spanish digital nomads?

Latin America is the obvious choice due to language and culture. Countries like Colombia, Uruguay, and Costa Rica offer excellent Digital Nomad Visas. Within Europe, you have freedom of movement.

How does tax residency work ('Hacienda') if I leave Spain?

If you spend >183 days abroad and move your 'center of economic interest' out of Spain, you generally stop being a tax resident. However, you must inform Hacienda (Model 030). Be careful: if your spouse/children stay in Spain, you are presumed a resident.

Can I use the 'Beckham Law' if I return to Spain later?

Yes! If you have been a tax non-resident for at least 5 years and return to Spain with a work contract (or as a specific type of freelancer/digital nomad), you can apply for the Special Expats Regime (Beckham Law) to pay a flat 24% tax on income up to โ‚ฌ600k for 6 years.

Do I need special insurance as a Spaniard abroad?

Inside the EU, your EHIC (Tarjeta Sanitaria Europea) covers emergencies. Outside the EU, you absolutely need private Digital Nomad Insurance. Spanish public healthcare typically does not cover you globally for routine care.
